Building the foundations for fair competition in artificial intelligence industries: South Korean antitrust authority

Seoul, May 27 South Korea’s antitrust authority said on Monday that it will host a conference on artificial intelligence (AI) and competition policy with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

According to the Fair Trade Commission (FTC), experts were invited to the conference held in Seoul to discuss the role of competition in the supply chain of generative artificial intelligence platforms.

Generative artificial intelligence refers to technologies that create various types of content, including text, images and videos, by learning and analyzing data, reports Yonhap news agency.

“We must build a foundation for fair competition in AI industries to sustain innovative growth while preventing unfair practices,” said FTC Chairman Han Ki-jeong.

Frederic Jenny, chairman of the OECD’s competition committee, also noted that balanced regulation is needed to ensure fair competition in the market while promoting innovation.

The regulator noted that the government will seek to implement antitrust policies to address rapidly changing trends in the generative AI sector.
