On May 23, 2024, Senop Oy signed a letter of intent with the Finnish Defense Forces Logistics Command regarding the further development of new night vision goggles.

The letter of intent is related to improving the Army’s night fighting capabilities. The aim of this research and development partnership is to provide the Finnish Defense Forces with the opportunity to purchase domestically produced night vision devices that combine high performance, security of supply, cost-effectiveness and compatibility with existing and future Finnish soldier systems.

The letter of intent covers the development of the following products for the Finnish Defense Forces:

  • Next-generation night vision goggles based on M20 technology, with improved ergonomics and a new helmet mount.
  • Tactical thermal imaging binoculars based on uncooled thermal imaging camera technology, using both existing and new software solutions developed especially for the Finnish Defense Forces.
  • A new generation multi-mission fire control system based on smart aiming technology for several weapon platforms, e.g. support weapons and anti-tank weapon systems.

At a later stage, other countries will be able to join the development of night vision devices.

The ability to fight day and night and in difficult conditions is a key skill on the modern battlefield. According to Aki Korhonen, CEO of Senop Oy, this LOI reflects a trend where 24/7/365 combat capability, ergonomics and the ability to fire quickly with a high first round hit probability in all situations are key factors achieve victory on the battlefield. The development of new night vision devices is a significant and strategically important project for us. Korhonen emphasizes that customer service is our top priority and the Finnish Defense Forces are our most important customer. Through testing and R&D collaboration with end users, we are able to refine the usability and performance of our equipment to the razor’s edge.
