Homemade explosive device recovered from Algonquin Highlands residence: OPP

One man faces charges after one of them was seriously injured by a homemade explosive device.

Provincial police, along with the Haliburton Highlands Detachment and emergency crews, responded to a call from a home on Comak Crescent in Algonquin Highlands late Friday afternoon.

Authorities say the man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Neighbors in the area were evacuated while the OPP explosives team searched the apartment and found the homemade device.

“There are no explosive substances or devices at the site that could pose a threat to public safety,” police confirmed in a press release on Monday.

A 36-year-old Mississauga man has been arrested and charged with manufacturing or possessing an explosive for an unlawful purpose.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information to report it to authorities.
