BharatPe, PhonePe settle trademark dispute over use of ‘Pe’ suffix.

The BharatPe and PhonePe groups on Sunday announced that they have amicably resolved all long-standing legal disputes over the use of the trademark with the ‘Pe’ suffix. This followed a long-running legal dispute between multiple courts over the past five years. “The settlement will end all open court proceedings,” the statement said, adding that the companies had withdrawn all mutual oppositions in the trademark register.

Rajnish Kumar, chairman of the board of directors of BharatPe, called the move a “positive development for the industry”, appreciating the “maturity and professionalism shown by the management of both parties”. He added that this will help companies “continue to focus their energy and resources on building robust digital payments ecosystems.”
