First impressions of the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G

The Samsung Galaxy F series has always been known for providing a good balance of features and attractive prices. We have seen some amazing products from this series and the brand is planning to take everything to the next level with the latest Samsung Galaxy F55 5G. The latest smartphone offers a new vegan leather finish, a first from Samsung, better fast charging, decent hardware and much more. The phone offers interesting features and specifications, placing it among the best phones in this price segment. We spent some time with the device and here are our first impressions.

Starting with the design, which is also the main advantage of the device, the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is the company’s first smartphone to feature a vegan leather finish. While this type of finish is nothing new in the Indian smartphone segment, as we have seen brands like Realme, iQoo, Motorola and others already offering many models with this leather finish, Samsung’s implementation is quite apt.

We have the Apricot Crush color option, which certainly stands out with its bright orange leather finish and a stitch-like pattern running along the edge. The leather is soft and provides excellent holding feel.

The flat panel ensures a comfortable hold of the device. Samsung stuck to this design pattern because it’s quite user-friendly. The only thing we found was that the camera modules were sticking out, making it wobble on a flat surface. However, this is not the only smartphone in this segment, because the list is quite long.

The front panel has a bezel-less display with a cutout at the top, center, for the front camera. On the right side of the device there is a volume rocker and the on/off button, while on the left side there is a SIM card tray. The bottom panel has a USB Type-C port and a speaker grill. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G offers a sleek and lightweight design that is limited in this price segment.

The display also makes a good impression. The handset offers a 6.7-inch sAMOLED+ display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. It also comes with a 120Hz screen refresh rate and a maximum brightness of up to 1000 nits. The display has always been the brand’s strong point, and this case is no different. We really liked the display because it offers vivid colors and brightness. We will write more about this in our review.

In terms of performance, the latest Galaxy F55 5G is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor. It’s good to see that Samsung offers the option of Snapdragon chipsets in its mid-range products, which further enhances its value for money. In our brief tests, we found the device’s performance to be quite satisfactory for everyday use.

The phone also runs on the latest OneUI 6.1, based on the Android 14 operating system. The UI seems smooth for now and we will discuss its performance and UI in detail in our upcoming review, so stay tuned.

Samsung has also added some decent cameras on the Galaxy F55 5G. The phone comes with a triple camera setup with a 50-megapixel primary sensor with OIS support, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. On the front of the handset, there is a 50-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling. Selfie performance seems interesting in the testing phase.

The handset also has a 5,000mAh battery and supports 45W fast charging. It’s good to see that Samsung is finally offering faster charging support for its mid-range smartphones to keep up with the competition from other brands. During our initial testing, the device charged quickly, and battery life seems good so far.

That said, the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G offers excellent value for money thanks to its lightweight and elegant design. The vegan leather finish is a thumbs up and the use of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor works in the brand’s favor. However, we still need to test it on various parameters to find out whether the phone can withstand the competitive pressure. So stay tuned for our full review!
