Google is reportedly working on two very useful features for the Find My Device app

The Google Find My Device app is a new addition to the Android platform that allows you to find your lost or misplaced devices using your phone. And now, Google seems to have planned some useful features for it that will make your life even easier.

First, Google is reportedly planning to add biometric unlocking support to the app. Currently you log in with a password, which is a bit inconvenient and slows things down. You now have a “Don’t ask again” option that stops the app from asking you for your password… but it’s not as secure, and if it’s on, anyone with access to your phone can locate your device tag.

That’s why we’re working on a new “Allow biometric login” option. This should work quite simply, allowing you to unlock the app using biometric verification. Reverse engineer and Android Authority contributor AssembleDebug managed to activate this option, which means it’s almost ready for official release.

We are also working on the second function – remote locking. This feature allows you to remotely lock your phone if you lose it. Right now, you can do this on someone else’s Android phone if you know their Google account login details. However, this may be a problem if you use a password manager or use a password for your Google account.

With Remote Lock you will be able to lock the screen of your lost phone by entering your phone number. According to reports, this feature will be rolled out later this year as an update to Google Play Services and should be available on devices running Android 10 or later.
