Real-time data streams from device to cloud – TradingView News

SAN FRANCISCO, May 28, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Golioth, an IoT development platform, has announced its launch Pipelines, a breakthrough feature set that transforms the way users manage and route IoT data with Golioth to any cloud, data warehouse or platform. Pipelines now replaces obsolete output streams with improved functionality, scalability and user control.

Introducing Pipelines: versatility and control over your device data

Golioth developed Pipelines to offer a more comprehensive data routing solution. Unlike its previous output streams, Pipelines allows you to route data to a LightDB stream (Golioth’s time series storage), user databases, or any other destination in any format. This flexibility takes into account regulatory and data storage requirements, eliminating previous restrictions.

Pipelines enables users to:

  • Build IoT infrastructure as code: developers can version pipeline configurations along with application code.
  • Filter and transform streaming data: developers can transform compressed data native to the device into a more cloud-friendly format.
  • Send to one or more destinations: send data from your fleet to multiple clouds, data stores, applications, or all of the above.
  • Stream data with one line of code: developers can enable Pipelines in their firmware to capture and route data from the device to the cloud with little effort.
  • Create custom webhooks: send data anywhere.

Founder and CEO Jonathan Beri details: “Pipelines is a huge step towards realizing the full potential of Device Lakes. Our new features enable users to filter, transform and route IoT data with unmatched flexibility and control. This means every piece of valuable data generated by devices can be harnessed and directed where it is needed most, creating new opportunities for innovation and efficiency.”

Pipeline filtering and transformation features are designed to simplify back-end services through low-code configuration. Configurations are managed as YAML files for easy deployment across multiple projects. This version control approach aligns data routing configurations with application code.

Eli Thomas, chief technology officer at Method Recycling, a waste management company that is on track to divert 1 billion kilograms of waste from landfills, explains: “With Pipelines, we can modify requests and data right before sending it to our database , eliminating the need for our custom edge functions. This greatly simplifies our work. Previously, we had to manually remove and clean data before it entered our database, but now we can handle various data formats directly and apply custom logic only when needed. This is a game changer for us, removing the middle layer and streamlining the entire process.

Greater compliance and cost effectiveness

Golioth says Pipelines separates data storage from routing, offering significant benefits:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Users can direct data to their own compatible storage solutions that meet stringent regulatory requirements for sensitive applications such as medical devices.
  • Savings: Users who do not need data persistence can route data directly to other destinations, avoiding the costs associated with streaming data to multiple storage solutions.

Updated pricing model

Golioth maintains usage-based pricing and has introduced volume discounts to accommodate different data usage patterns. Large fleets can stream sensor data for as little as $0.001 per device per month. The first 3MB of Pipelines usage is free, allowing users to create prototypes without a credit card.

All details can be found on the price list page.

Available immediately for new and existing accounts

Golioth’s free tier allows Pipelines to try new users for free with large data limits. For existing accounts, the transition from output streams to pipelines is seamless and without interruption in data streaming. Existing users can opt-in to the migration, while new users will see pipelines as default in the console.
