The Israeli company Nofar Energy is starting the construction of a 26 MW photovoltaic park in Serbia

Nofar Energy has started construction of a 26 MW photovoltaic park in northern Serbia, divided into two units that will be connected to the distribution network. The value of the project is EUR 25 million. The company assured that it would complete them before the end of the year.

The co-owner of the largest Romanian solar power plant has started construction works on a photovoltaic installation with a peak capacity of 26 MW in neighboring Serbia. Nofar Energy has chosen a location in Utrine in the municipality of Ada in the north of the country.

The photovoltaic park is divided into two units. They have permission to connect with a capacity of 9,999 MW each from the Serbian electricity distribution operator Elektrodistribucija Srbije (EDS). There is no stand-alone photovoltaic unit in the transmission network of this Balkan country yet.

Both photovoltaic installations cover an area of 15 hectares each and are located on a plot of 116 hectares, planned as part of the expansion of the photovoltaic park. Nofar Energy launched the projects through its subsidiaries Forest Energy and Energia Solis.

Serbia reaches 100 MW solar capacity

It is worth noting that a photovoltaic unit with a connection capacity of just under 10 MW was recently opened in Smederevo, east of Belgrade. Renewable energy advisor Rade Mrdak from the Ministry of Mines and Energy said that the total capacity of solar power plants in Serbia exceeded 100 MW. He estimated that another five facilities with a total capacity of 30 MW will be launched by the end of the year.

Nofar Energy founder Ofer Yannay said the rules for implementing such projects depend on the government, banks and investors. He said that in Serbia the process is “smooth and fast” and if it continues, it may even surpass Romania.

Nofar Energy chose the Turkish company Girişim Elektrik to build the power plant

According to Nofar Energy, the Ada1 and Ada2 solar parks will produce 33.2 GWh per year. It was also revealed that the project costs EUR 25 million. The contractor is the Turkish company Girişim Elektrik. Nofar, founded in 2011, announced that it is implementing several larger projects with a total capacity of 270 MW.

The Israeli company said it develops, builds and operates photovoltaic systems, wind farms and energy storage. It operates in Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Romania, Poland, Italy, Greece and Serbia.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) approved a soft loan of EUR 55 million for Nofar Energy special purpose vehicles in Romania in March. The financing covers two photovoltaic projects in Giurgiu County in the southeast.

RTG Solar Energy is developing the 169 MW Iepurești project. The second photovoltaic power plant, Ghimpați, is formally subordinated to Solis Imperium. The planned capacity is 146 MW. Nofar previously purchased a 255 MW project in the Corbii Mari commune in Dambovița County.
