London Metropolitan University enhances medical education with Pure AV technology

Pure AV supported London Metropolitan University in modernizing its medical education facilities with cutting-edge AV technology.

As a long-term partner, Pure AV has worked with London Metropolitan University to introduce new technologies, provide technical advice and ensure high standards, complementing the university’s ambition to set global standards in health education through the new School of Humanities.

Pure AV’s early meetings with the University focused on space layouts, goals, budgets and timelines before the former consulted with technology partners to meet the desired specifications. Once appropriate technologies were identified, Pure AV facilitated communication between the University and vendors. Satisfied with the proposal, the University authorized Pure AV to develop room diagrams and coordinate with the building contractor.

The result is what both Pure AV and the university recognize as a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide innovative healthcare simulations and training in carefully planned research and simulation environments.

Julie-Ann MacLaren, Head of Nursing at London Metropolitan Universityhe said:

As healthcare shifts to a more digital landscape, it is important that our students have access to state-of-the-art equipment and resources. Establishing a simulation skills center with high-quality AV ensures that we can provide the best to our students, preparing them for the evolving digital world of nursing.

Installation specifics

Medical simulation is central to healthcare education at London Metropolitan University. The facility features a variety of simulated environments that mimic real clinical conditions for realistic learning scenarios.

An 86-inch Clevertouch display on the front provides interactivity, while the AMX control panel allows for easy content sharing and AV control. The central element of this space is SMOTS, a tailor-made medical observation and registration system. Discreet cameras, speakers and scenario controls capture video, audio and important readings.

Faculty review these recordings with students in a Telehealth environment designed for both individual and group learning. A fully integrated lectern with custom AMX controls allows for easy management of room systems. Aver ceiling-mounted cameras, QSC pendant speakers and Sennheiser TeamConnect Ceiling 2 microphones provide wide coverage and excellent audio quality.

Sony displays are strategically placed to ensure optimal visibility for all participants in the room and remotely. The ability to adapt the room allows it to function as a large teaching space or divide it into smaller sections for group collaboration. Two TOP-TEC Synergy desks facilitate these collaboration areas by providing comprehensive access to the AV system and displays in the room.

The Telehealth Room is equipped with the Sennheiser Mobile Connect system, which provides everyone with high-quality training, improving the experience for people with hearing impairments. Individuals can access the audio system by scanning a QR code in the room and downloading the app. This app connects directly to a live audio feed that is transmitted through your personal mobile device and can be connected to your hearing aids via Bluetooth.

Skills spaces 2A and 2B are centrally located and equipped with double partition doors allowing for flexible room division. Each room features 85-inch Sony displays, an 85-inch Clevertouch interactive display, a fully integrated lectern, Beyerdynamic ceiling microphones and Aver wall-mounted cameras. QSC speakers provide sound, and Sennheiser Mobile Connect increases accessibility.

Finally, the inclusion of Igloo Vision in the university enhances the student learning experience through greater realism and presence.

Igloo Vision offers immersive 360-degree environments thanks to projection mapping technology. Students engage with a variety of content types, from photos to hyper-realistic scenarios, improving understanding and engagement. From emergencies to hospital wards, these simulations enrich the learning journey at London Metropolitan University.

“Pure AV fully understands the requirements of the university,” he added Mark Bardouille, Director of IT Operations at London Metropolitan University. “They have been working closely with us for many years and bring a wealth of experience to ensure a seamless collaboration.”
