Indian benchmark indices ended the volatile session on May 28 lower with Nifty trading below 22,900.

The Sensex fell 220.05 points or 0.29 per cent to 75,170.45 and the Nifty fell 44.30 points or 0.19 per cent to 22,888.20. About 1,079 shares advanced, 2,272 shares declined and 83 shares remained unchanged.

Top losers in Nifty were Adani Ports, Power Grid Corp, Coal India, Adani Enterprises and BPCL, while gainers were Divis Laboratories, SBI Life Insurance, HDFC Life, Grasim Industries and Hero MotoCorp.

Sectorally, oil & gas, capital goods, telecom, PSU Bank, power and real estate declined by 1-2 per cent.

The BSE Midcap index fell 0.5% and the small cap index fell 1%.
