The new Chromebook Plus devices have Gemini AI technology built-in

If you care about productivity at work or school, Chromebooks are some of the best options, especially at a low price. However, for some, a regular Chromebook doesn’t provide enough power, so Google has created a line of Chromebook Plus devices that are twice as powerful.

Today, Chromebooks are getting another upgrade as Google brings its artificial intelligence model, Gemini, and other Google AI features to the hardware platform to ensure peak productivity.

Your Chromebook Plus keeps getting better thanks to Gemini and Google AI

Your Chromebook Plus is the main helper in your efforts at work and school, but Google seems to want this helper to be as powerful as the main character. Today, Google is rolling out three Google AI features to your Chromebook Plus. Here they are:

  • “Help me write”: This feature works like a little bookworm that’s always on your shoulder, ready to help you be more efficient in everything that has to do with writing. If it’s a text field, Google AI can help you type. This can work for titles, posts, subject lines, emails, etc. It can even refine the tone more to your liking, as well as shorten, formalize, and rephrase it.
  • Magic Editor: Magic Editor is the same as on Google Pixel devices, but Chromebook Plus laptops will be the only ones that will be able to use it in Google Photos. This AI-powered editor allows you to move and even resize objects in your image.
  • Generative AI video wallpapers and backgrounds: Are you looking for a surreal, colorful or unique background for your computer chats or video calls? Chrome OS on Chromebook Plus gets a new wallpaper creator that you can use to create unique backgrounds that are anything but boring.

In addition to Google AI, Chromebook Plus laptops will also get help from Google Gemini, which is not surprising considering Google is putting a lot of work into developing its AI model and making it available to consumers. Gemini comes pre-installed and you will be able to work with it, plan things, study, create drafts and so on.

Additionally, if you purchase a new Chromebook Plus before the end of the year, you’ll also receive a free year of Google One AI Premium, which includes Gemini Advanced and Gemini for Workspace, among others.

Regular Chromebooks will get some love, too

OK, so you don’t have a Chromebook Plus and you’re getting by with a classic Chromebook. All right. You may not be taking advantage of all the AI goodness, but there are some new features coming over the course of a week or so (of course, all of these features will be coming to Chromebook Plus models as well).

  • You’ll set up your Chromebook in the blink of an eye. Just scan the QR code with your Android device and your Wi-Fi and Google credentials will be instantly shared, so you can get started right away.
  • Using the screen capture tool, you can now set your recordings to be saved in GIF format.
  • Google Tasks is now integrated, bringing another boost to your productivity. Adding or finishing tasks on your to-do list is as simple as opening the calendar in the lower right corner of the screen.
  • The all-new Game Panel adds many useful features for gamers, such as mapping controls, screen recording with voiceover, and sharing screenshots and gameplay clips.
