Afenifere supports Tinubu on LG autonomy and principles

The esteemed leader of Afenifere, a prominent pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and socio-political organization, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, has publicly supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to grant full autonomy to 774 local government areas across Nigeria.

This confirmation was part of a congratulatory letter delivered on the occasion of President Tinubu’s first year in office.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Comrade Jare Ajayi, Pa Fasoranti commended the Tinubu administration for its bold policies over the past year.

He expressed confidence that the policy would enable Nigeria to reposition itself towards better governance and improved local administration.

Pa Fasoranti stated, “Before, during and after the presidential elections that brought you into office last year, I gave you some ideas on how to address some of the challenges Nigeria was facing – and continues to face. We also discussed some of these issues when I led the Afenifere delegation to your office in Abuja last month.

“I am happy to note that, true to your promises, you are making efforts to implement policies that will improve the situation of our dear country and improve the lot of its citizens.”

The nonanegarian said that the reforms initiated by the government have a chance to revitalize the country’s economy and reduce mutual distrust between ethnic nationalities in the country.

According to Ajayi, the leader especially praised Tinubu for his government’s efforts to save local governments from the choking grip of state governors.

“There is no doubt that local government is closest to the people. Because it is thanks to it that citizens can effectively feel the government’s influence.

“However, in the current climate, the tight grip that state governors have on local governments is seriously depriving citizens of the benefits they should rightfully receive from their local governments.

“In this context, Pa Fasoranti described the latest step taken by Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi on behalf of the Federal Government as a step in the right direction.”Ajayi quoted Fasoranti, who is also an Asiwaju from Yoruba, as saying.

Expressing optimism that the government’s steps would soon ease the pain of Nigerians, Fasoranti urged President Tinubu to continue investing in infrastructure such as energy and transportation.

He further stated, “Safety is an important factor in any social equation. This is when people are confident that they will be able to confidently engage in activities that will stimulate the economy and improve interpersonal relations.

“To institutionalize ongoing reforms, accelerate development, increase citizen participation in governance and create the desired new Nigeria, there is an urgent need to restructure the country.

“Restructuring will deepen people’s participation in governance, stimulate the creativity of Nigerians and safeguard the future of the country.”
