Smarter E Forum – Connecting sectors in practice

We will need smart solutions at all levels of the network and in all sectors to address the challenges of a climate-neutral energy supply 24/7. Taking place from June 19 to 21 in Munich, the smarter E Europe event presents a holistic approach to the system – from solar power generation and power grids to the grid edge, which is the interface between power grids and connected prosumers and consumers.

The Smarter E Forum is taking the same approach in Hall B5, Stand B3.550. You can expect a large stage and a diverse program. Manufacturers, users and associations share their practical knowledge on important topics such as smart grids and prosumption during all three exhibition days.
Practical knowledge for utilities and network operators

Get started with the future of power grid management

The forum begins on Wednesday, June 19 with the topic of the future of power grid management. The efficient integration of renewable energy sources and the continuous balancing of energy production and consumption will require digitalization and flexibility. In this first session, leading solution providers and utilities will present their technologies and strategies to overcome this problem.

Digitization also helps speed up the grid connection of photovoltaic systems and electromobility charging stations, which can sometimes take several months, slowing down the energy transition. Find out how you can improve this process at the Faster to Grid: Connecting Solar Systems Faster session on Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday, June 20, will also be another exciting day for the media. The day begins with a session on Unlocking the Future of Energy – innovations and digital technologies facilitating new business models for utilities. In the afternoon, the eighth presentation of the Energy Transition Award, organized by EUPD Research, will take place on stage, aimed at utilities truly committed to furthering the energy transition.

Honoring performance and innovation

But it’s not just utilities that are important to the energy transition – solar and battery installers also deserve recognition for their efforts. The EUPD Research Installer Award recognizes their achievements and will be presented on Wednesday afternoon during The smarter E Forum.

On the same day, the forum will devote some time to the winners and finalists of the smarter E AWARD competition, which will be awarded on the eve of the exhibition at the Messe München International Congress Center (ICM). The finalists of the Intelligent Integrated Energy and Outstanding Projects categories will present their innovations. Their products and services are paving the way for the future of a smart energy system and include solutions for grid management and energy monitoring, prosumer integration, flexibility options and much more. Get inspired by the pioneers of the energy industry!

Great potential for prosumers

From Thursday afternoon, prosumers and smart buildings and districts will be the focus of the Smarter E Forum. Demand-side flexibility allows prosumers to adjust their consumption, save energy and feed it into the grid during peak hours. In the Empowering Consumers through Demand-Side Flexibility session, you will learn how decentralized systems such as photovoltaics and stationary or mobile storage systems can lower utility costs for consumers, increase the use of renewable energy, and help alleviate grid congestion.

Another important factor ensuring the flexibility and climate neutrality of buildings is heating with electricity from renewable sources. Speakers of the Decarbonization and Electrification of Heating: A European Path session will present examples of best practice and share their experiences. This will require intelligent energy management systems to optimize the use of flexibility, and this will be the topic of discussion on Friday, June 21. In the Intelligent Integrated Energy Management session, manufacturers will demonstrate the potential of intelligent, integrated energy management systems – from single-family homes and companies to industrial enterprises.

Types of energy division

Energy communities and energy sharing are also a way for tenants, home owners or businesses to actively participate in the energy transition while benefiting from low-cost renewable energy. New regulations provide fresh impetus. What types of energy sharing are already possible in German-speaking regions, and what issues still need to be addressed to make energy sharing as easy as car sharing? A smarter E forum will provide answers in another session.
