Vape devices and potential bans in Texas

Author Craig Munro at Metro shared a story about the disposable nicotine vaping devices we’ve been seeing everywhere. Apparently, the plan to ban them in the UK has some Texans wondering whether they will be banned here as well.

The debate about nicotine vaping devices continues, with strong opinions about their safety compared to cigarettes and whether the variety of fruit- and dessert-inspired flavors is causing young people in Texas to adopt the habit. I’ve heard people in Longview and Tyler, Texas talking about this.

Some people believe that vaporization devices are a safer alternative to smoking cigarettes. Others, including people who might be considered “experts” on the subject, say we can’t be completely sure because there is no data on the long-term effects of vaping. You can certainly find many articles on this topic on the Internet.

OK, but honestly: do we think vape devices will ever be completely BANNED in Texas?

It’s weird to even think about it, considering cigarettes aren’t banned (at least not yet). However, there is ongoing debate about whether the Biden administration wants to ban menthol-flavored cigarettes. So maybe it’s not too far-fetched to consider.

The report shows that this decision is due to concerns about the potential health risks to children and the negative impact the device may have on the environment.

While we haven’t heard of any pending legislation in Texas to ban vapes, steps have been taken to make them less attractive to children. If you remember, a new law came into force in 2024 that prohibits images of fruit or juices on vape packaging.

In my opinion, vaporizers can be helpful for smokers who want to quit. Some argue that vaporizers may only increase nicotine intake in some smokers who vape but continue to smoke.

By the way, if you vape, don’t leave it in the glove compartment.
