The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office received hundreds of dash cam videos

The sheriff’s office said an extensive research process took place to decide which cameras to choose before deciding on Axon.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — On Tuesday, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) announced it will use cameras from Axon Inc. in the Body Camera / In Car Camera project.

The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners has approved the draft budget for the 2024/2025 fiscal year. The sheriff’s office said an extensive research process was conducted to decide which cameras to choose before deciding to contract with Axon.

“With the award of the contract, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office will be equipped with a state-of-the-art dash cam and dash cam throughout the county,” an OCSO statement said. “Axon body-worn cameras are used by more major law enforcement agencies than any other brand in the world.”

Axon also provides law enforcement and first responders with stun-powered devices, cloud-based digital evidence management solutions, productivity software and real-time operational capabilities. They provide these cameras, as well as in-car and in-car cameras, to first responders from international, federal, state and local law enforcement, fire departments, correctional facilities, emergency medical services and the justice system.

“With features built into Axon solutions, law enforcement can connect with partners, from district officials to neighboring agencies to prosecutors working on a case,” OCSO said in a statement.

OCSO said work to build a statewide system for the Sheriff’s Office will begin in the next few weeks. The project will include approximately 200 body cameras and 120 car cameras along with software and operating systems.
