CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Temu and Shein are foreign budget brands known for affordable clothing and a wide selection.

In total, the companies ship approximately 9,000 tons of cargo around the world every day.

High demand benefits both Shein and Temu, but may come at the expense of everyone else.

Forbes reports that higher demand for fast fashion is making air freight rates extremely high. In fact, prices are among the highest since late 2023.

This impact is not limited to air cargo prices. Forbes explains that Temu has launched new sea and air routes using Taiwan, Japan and Korea to deliver products to the US, another move that pushes shipping rates even higher.

However, this move may save buyers.

For now, Shein and Temu offer free shipping on orders over a certain amount, suggesting the companies are willing to incur higher costs to maintain accelerated growth in the U.S.
