Offshore workers

BILBAO, Spain — Iberdrola subsidiary Ailes Marines has completed the commissioning of the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm in Brittany, the second operating offshore wind farm in France.

62 wind turbines produce 1,820 GWh/year, which is approximately 9% of the total electricity consumption in the voivodeship. All production is directed to the national power grid managed by RTE.

Saint-Brieuc is the fourth offshore wind farm that Iberdrola has developed, built and operated, after West of Duddon Sands in the Irish Sea (389 MW), Wikinger in the Baltic Sea (350 MW) and East Anglia One in the southern North Sea in the UK . (714 MW).

Baltic Eagle (476 MW) in Germany, East Anglia 3 (1.4 GW) and Vineyard Wind 1 (806 MW) on the US east coast are under construction.

Development of Saint-Brieuc began in April 2012 and included investments totaling €2.4 billion ($2.59 billion). Local benefits include over 500 jobs in Brittany and over 1,700 across France.

The jacket foundation elements were partially constructed and assembled in the Brest polder by Navantia Windar, and Haizea Breizh installed the electrical equipment for the masts of 62 wind turbines, also in the Brest polder.

The wind turbines were manufactured at the Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy complex in Le Havre, Normandy.
