Renewable Energy Technology Program | WAVY.com

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Last year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools opened its new renewable energy technology program to high school students in its Advanced Technology Center. Everything was made possible thanks to the Accelerating Change Together grant funded by four local companies.

The ACT grant comes from Bayport Credit Union in partnership with Ferguson Cares, Newport News Shipbuilding Gives and Virginia Natural Gas. This is a community partnership to fund a transformational grant designed to invest in the Hampton Roads nonprofit community, build on education and develop a skilled workforce that will benefit the nation.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools Director of Technical and Career Education Sara Lockett and Kellam High School student Lily Benfield joined us to tell us more about how the grant will be used.
