The power of Android device management platforms for telecommunications companies

The market opportunity for telecommunications and managed service providers in leasing smart devices to their customers is significant and multi-faceted.

Leasing smart devices such as mobile phones, tablets, smart TVs and set-top boxes allows telecommunications companies and other service providers to generate additional revenue streams beyond traditional subscription services. By offering leased devices as part of service packages, telecommunications operators can attract more customers and increase broadband usage. At the same time, smart device leasing can provide a service provider with a valuable competitive advantage and extend customer lifetime while creating upsell and partnership opportunities.

According to Nadav Avni, chief marketing officer at Radix Technologies, a device management platform company, once smart devices are deployed to customers, the service provider remains the primary stakeholder responsible for the lifecycle of the fleet of devices rented to customers.

Avni recommends that service providers rely on Android device management software to improve leased device fleet management, maintenance and security. He emphasizes that remote connectivity is one of the keys to efficient management of Android devices.

Simplify device registration and provisioning

Avni explains that remote connectivity, along with other cloud technologies, allows service provider IT administrators to simplify the process of deploying new devices and apply pre-configured device settings and policies. Remote connectivity also streamlines the delivery of new units to subscribers by eliminating the need to employ dispatch technicians for device deployment and routine maintenance. IT administrators can also use remote access to continuously monitor device health, perform routine maintenance, and apply security measures.

Centralized management and remote control

Another benefit of remote connectivity for an Android device management platform is the service provider’s ability to continuously update its fleet of rental devices with the latest patches, patches and updates, Avni points out. Instead of relying on users to perform these important tasks, service provider IT administrators can centrally initiate these updates within their device management platform. To resolve technical issues, IT support can remotely take control of a subscriber’s device to diagnose the problem and apply necessary fixes, which is much cheaper than sending a technician to the customer’s premises.

Automation of security and compliance measures

Avni further explains that an Android device management software platform can also add an additional dimension by improving the security and compliance posture for both the service provider and its subscribers, as well as the leased devices. Avni notes that many security and compliance measures can be managed on a centralized device management platform, which is much less risky than relying on individual subscribers to apply these measures.

Examples of security and compliance measures that can be centrally managed with device management software include enforcing strict password protocols, using strong encryption methods for data transmission, disabling devices in the event of a security breach, and wiping data in the event of device theft.

Better distribution of applications and content

According to Avni, app installation on leased devices and app version updates can also be simplified if handled through a centralized Android device management software platform. It notes that the service provider can host popular mobile and smart TV apps, such as content streaming apps and social networks, giving subscribers easy access to downloads and updates. Similarly, a service provider can leverage a device management platform to perform critical application updates across multiple devices or even across a fleet of leased devices.

Avni states that overall investment in Android device management software helps service providers ensure that rental devices are properly managed, maintained and secured throughout their lifespan. For the service provider, this can lead to increased revenues, gaining a valuable competitive advantage and greater customer loyalty.
