The Bookseller – News – Pushkin Press intends to expand further into the American market.

Pushkin Press intends to enter the U.S. market with the acquisition of nonfiction publisher Steerforth Press and its sister company Hanover Publisher Services.

Publishers Weeklyreports that the two companies will be merged into Steerforth Press and Services from July. Steerforth Press co-founder Chip Fleischer will remain with the publisher as senior editor and will acquire six to eight new nonfiction titles per year. Previously, since 2014, Hannover distributed Pushkin in the USA.

– said Adam Freudenheim, Pushkin’s publisher and doctor. “Pushkin Publishing has gone from strength to strength in recent years, across all of our imprints, making this the perfect time to focus more effort and energy on this market, particularly on marketing and advertising.” He noted that Pushkin’s U.S. sales have increased year over year since the company was acquired by Hanover.

Named Independent Publisher of the Year at the 2022 British Book Awards, Pushkin is quietly growing, taking over Peter Owen Publishers and Angel Classics in the UK in 2023.

Founded in 1994, Steerforth Press focuses exclusively on works of narrative nonfiction, but its list includes fiction and poetry. Hanover, through Random House Publisher Services, distributes small presses such as Archipelago Books in Brooklyn and Campfire Graphic Novels in New Delhi, India.
