Amazon is rolling out AI voice search to Fire TV devices

Amazon is bringing an AI-powered search feature to Fire TV that will enable Alexa to answer open-ended questions about TV shows and movies and provide more detailed recommendations tailored to users’ preferences.

Announced at Amazon’s annual device event last September, this feature is based on the proprietary Large Language Model (LLM). Artificial intelligence understands natural language and phrases and can answer specific questions, such as “What movie contains the phrase ‘Life is like a box of chocolates?’ (side note: “Forrest Gump”). It can also display options based on actors, characters, genres, and themes.

Alexa will also be able to suggest titles included on streaming services you already subscribe to. So if you ask Alexa to find psychological thrillers with surprising endings, it will only display content available to you.

The new feature will be available in a few weeks for US customers with Fire TV devices running Fire OS 6 or later.

The new search feature is Amazon’s latest effort to add AI-powered generative features to Fire TV. The company previously launched an AI-powered image generator to create TV backgrounds, as well as three Alexa features that let you play games and create songs.
