The Civic Union is talking about the Charter Revision Commission

On Wednesday, the City Council and the Adams administration held dueling meetings.

The council was considering a bill extending its control powers over mayoral nominations.

Meanwhile, the city’s Charter Review Board met for the first time to talk about putting the proposal on the ballot in November.

Pursuant to the current City Statute, a referendum question and a committee question cannot appear on the same ballot.

Council members stated that the creation of the commission was retaliation for the Council’s bill. However, the Adams administration said this was not the case.

Betsy Gotbaum, executive director of Citizens Union, a good government group, and previously also served as public advocate, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to discuss more.

Gotbaum testified against the legislation proposed by the Council.
