EDP Renewables will build a 175 MW solar project in Arkansas

“We are proud to continue our expansion into the South with a focus on meeting the clean energy needs of Arkansas,” said Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDP Renewables North America.

Last year, EDP Renewables began a long-term expansion of its US operations. In April 2023, it signed a 1.8 GW module supply agreement with thin-film cadmium telluride (CdTe) manufacturer First Solar to support its US portfolio through 2026.

In addition to utility-scale projects like this venture in Arkansas, the company has announced plans to develop 4 GW of distributed solar projects across its global operations through EDPR North America and its Madrid-based parent company. The company said it will invest €2.5 billion in development by 2026.

Prior to this announcement, the company signed a framework agreement with tech giant Google to develop 650 MWp of solar power plants distributed across the US in six states, starting with Ohio. Google said it would be the lead financier of the portfolio in exchange for renewable energy certificates and other environmental attributes.
