Submarine cables ready for the Eolmed floating wind farm project

Offshore workers

Milan, Italy – Prysmian has completed subsea power cable work at the Gruissan/Eolmed floating offshore wind project in southern France.

The location is 15 km from the coastal town of Gruissan on the Mediterranean Sea. The French Qair leads the Eolmed consortium, which includes Total, BW Ideol responsible for the construction of the Damping Pool concrete float, and MHI Vestas, which will deliver three wind turbines.

In 2021, TSO RTE (Réseau de Transport d’Électricité) awarded the company an EPCI contract for an export submarine power cable system.

Prysmian’s scope of activities included the design, supply, installation, termination, testing and commissioning of a 66 kV EPR insulated static three-core submarine cable (23 km) and a 66 kV EPR insulated dynamic subsea export tail connecting the onshore power grid to the floating electric node a 30 MW wind farm that is still under construction.
