Samsung devices will not have the new Instant hotspot feature on Android

Android is getting a new “Instant Hotspot” feature that should make it easier to connect your Android tablet or Chromebook to your phone’s data connection. However, Samsung devices will not have this feature.

Instant Hotspot will be introduced as part of the recent Android retirement and will allow users to easily and quickly share the hotspot from their Android phone to their tablets or Chromebooks. This feature will save you time by skipping steps like turning on hotspot on your phone or entering a password on a Wi-Fi-only device.

However, Android authorities small print appeared on the image of this feature stating that it is “not available on Samsung devices”. It’s not immediately clear why, but the publication speculates that Samsung may have dropped the Instant hotspot feature as it already offers its own version of the feature, but exclusively for Samsung phones and tablets.

Samsung’s hotspot feature, combined with the fact that Chromebooks already have an “Instant Tether” feature to make it easier to connect to your phone’s hotspot, means that the lack of instant hotspot won’t be a huge loss for Samsung users.

Still, it’s a bit strange that this feature isn’t available on Samsung devices since it’s part of Google Play Services, which is available on all Google-certified Android devices.
