AI’s threat to innovation and ideas requires strong antitrust oversight, says the Justice Department’s Kanter

The rise of artificial intelligence could create new threats to the marketplace of ideas and innovation from dominant players, so effective antitrust enforcement must help ensure competition in the artificial intelligence ecosystem, the U.S. Department of Justice’s top antitrust enforcer said on Thursday.

“Effective antitrust enforcement often coincides with major industrial and technological change,” U.S. Deputy Attorney General Jonathan Kanter told attendees at an artificial intelligence competition event at Stanford University.
