SKM appeals to people to ensure change of government to change policies » Yes, Punjab

New Delhi, May 30, 2024 (Daljeet Kaur)

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has urged the public to punish the pro-corporate and anti-farmer BJP government at the Centre.

The Modi government has formulated and implemented policies that deliberately worsen the economic situation of farmers in order to aid and abet the grabbing of farmers’ land and their disembarkation.

The three farm laws and free trade agreements were intended to promote corporations that could then take control of crop production and the food supply chain and monopolize them for profiteering and further oppression of ordinary people.

SKM views the general elections to the 18th Lok Sabha as an opportunity to accelerate the fight against corporatization of agriculture and strive to facilitate alternative agricultural policies and agro-based industrial development, escaping the predatory clutches of corporate monopolies.

Alternative policies based on public investment, producer cooperatives and other people-centred models are inevitable to support farmers to achieve remunerative prices, workers receive wages for a decent living and ensure social security, including pensions, for all sections of society.

SKM appeals to the public to ensure a change of government to change policies that will free farmers from debt, provide adequate public investment, interest-free loans to revitalize agriculture, achieve food security and eradicate poverty.

SKM appeals to people belonging to Dalits, Adivasi and other backward communities to unite and reject the BJP to protect their right to object to the BJP’s privatization, contract-based and non-recruitment policies.

Due to the recruitment ban, over 30 million posts remain vacant in various departments of the Union government, including railways.
