Realme GT 6T review: Performance is its strong point

After a break of over two years, Realme presented the latest edition of its GT series – Relame GT 6T. Coming back to the USP of the phone, we can say that with features like Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset, 5500mAh battery with 120W fast charging and LTPO AMOLED display, the new Realme GT 6T offers a good deal in its price segment. Let’s find out more!

Design

The Realme GT 6T offers a design that balances functionality with some premium features, although it may not stand out from the latest Realme smartphones like the 12 Pro series. The handset has a glossy two-tone finish that is prone to smudges. The phone has a plastic construction and a curved screen, which adds to its visual appeal.

There are three separate rings on the back of the phone for the cameras and LED flash. The device comes with a USB Type-C port located between the SIM ejection tray and the speaker grill on the bottom edge. The earpiece also functions as an additional speaker, providing stereo sound. The company has included an IR module that allows you to control compatible devices.

There is a punch-hole cutout on the front of the phone for the selfie camera. The fingerprint reader is placed on the screen and responds well. The Realme GT 6T is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for scratch resistance and has an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance, which is a commendable feature for a mid-range smartphone.

The overall design, including the curved front and rear panels, really contributes to the premium feel. However, opinions may be divided on the aesthetics of the back panel, especially when it comes to the silver “Nano Mirror Design” strip, which is prone to scratches and fingerprints.

Display

Realme GT 6T has a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. One of the standout features is the maximum brightness of 6,000 nits. This extraordinary level of brightness exceeds that of many high-end smartphones, although it is only maintained for a short time to prevent display burn-in. With regular use, the display offers a typical brightness of 1,000 nits and can reach 1,600 nits in high brightness mode, ensuring good visibility even in bright outdoor conditions.

The display has a resolution of 2780 x 1264, which provides a sharp and detailed image. It features a touch sampling rate of up to 2500 Hz, which further improves the display’s responsiveness and makes it perfect for gaming and other intensive applications.

Color performance is another strong point of the Realme GT 6T display. Covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, offering vivid and accurate colors. 10-bit color depth enables the display to render 1.07 billion colors for a more refined and realistic image.

However, the surprising thing about the GT 6T is that there is no mention of HDR certifications, which might bother some users. But the display supports Dolby Vision.

operating system

Realme GT 6T runs on Realme UI 5.0 based on Android 14. The company promises software updates for up to four years and security updates for three years, so users can expect long-term support and optimization.

Editor

Realme GT 6T is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 processor, built in the efficient 4 nm process from TSMC. This chipset consists of a combination of one Kryo Prime core clocked at 2.8 GHz, four Kryo Gold cores clocked at 2.6 GHz and three Kryo Silver cores clocked at 1.9 GHz, as well as an Adreno 732 graphics processor operating at a frequency of 950 MHz . This configuration provides solid performance across a variety of applications and tasks.

In our tests, the Realme GT 6T handled demanding apps with ease, showing no signs of lag or performance issues. The advanced ice vapor cooling system effectively regulates the device’s temperature, which is especially noticeable during intense gaming sessions of titles such as BGMI, Asphalt and Pokemon Go.

The benchmark results further highlight the processor’s capabilities. On Geekbench, it recorded 1816 in single-core tests and 4616 in multi-core tests. The phone’s processor scores are some of the highest we’ve seen recently in the mid-range segment. Moreover, the GPU score was equally impressive as the phone recorded a figure of 8,125, highlighting the phone’s ability to handle heavy graphics demands while gaming.

Additionally, the smartphone is equipped with an independent privacy chip and firewall system to protect sensitive data such as biometrics and passwords. With memory and storage options in 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB configurations, Realme GT 6T offers sufficient performance and storage options, making it a strong competitor in its price category . We received a higher-end variant for review, i.e. 12 GB/512 GB.

Camera

Unlike other Realme phones, the camera power of the new Realme GT 6T is not its main selling point. The dual-camera setup includes a 50MP Sony LYT600 primary sensor with f/1.88 aperture and a 1/1.953-inch outsole. This main sensor captures 12.5MP images by default, ensuring high levels of detail and vivid colors, even in challenging lighting. The camera prefers warmer tones, which adds interest to photos, although the dynamic range could be wider.

The second camera is an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 112-degree field of view (FoV) and f/2.2 aperture. The wide-angle lens performs well, although it does show a slight drop in sharpness and color fidelity compared to the main sensor. Nevertheless, it is useful for capturing wider scenes and is a good addition to the camera’s versatility.

When it comes to night photography, the Realme GT 6T performs quite well. The main camera captures good details in low light, maintaining color fidelity and producing satisfactory images with minimal noise. And as we always suggest, for better results, use Night Mode.

For selfies, Realme GT 6T comes with a 32MP front camera housed in a punch-hole arrangement. This camera captures photos with a good level of facial detail and accurate skin tones. Although there is some over-processing that may reduce some details, selfies remain attractive and are easily shared on social media. The front camera’s portrait mode works great, detecting edges perfectly and minimizing distortion in well-lit conditions, although performance drops slightly in low light.

Battery

Realme GT 6T is equipped with a powerful 5500 mAh battery. This kind of battery power allows the phone to last a fairly comfortable day and a half with moderate use. In terms of charging, Realme has provided a 120W fast charging feature that can fully charge the phone in 35-40 minutes.

Verdict

Realme GT 6T emerges as a strong offering at the top of the premium segment, intended for those who prioritize performance and features over aesthetics. While its design may not redefine the boundaries of smartphone styling, the device’s real strength lies in its efficient internals. Powered by the solid Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset, the GT 6T delivers a smooth and lag-free experience for most users. If you’re looking for a powerful, reliable and feature-packed premium phone without breaking the bank, the new Realme GT 6T could be your deal. Prices start from £30,999 for the 8GB/128GB variant.
