Data show an increase in the number of vocations after the pandemic

NHS England announced that there were almost a quarter more visits in April than in the same period before the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to NHS figures published yesterday, GPs made around 30.5 million visits in one month, compared to 24.5 million visits in April 2019. This 24.5% increase is due to the NHS being able to provide over 1.4 million GP visits every working day.

The figures also highlight that NHS staff exceeded their ambition to deliver 50 million more appointments over the last year compared to 2018-19, with an additional 62.8 million appointments delivered.

NHS England National Director for Primary Care, Dr Amanda Doyle, said:

“Thanks to GPs and their hard-working teams, millions more visits are being made every month compared to pre-pandemic, with plans in place to improve access even further.”

In addition to appointments, 98% of GP practices in England have also upgraded their telephone technology, enabling the expansion of telephone lines. This move will ensure that lines are not involved and companies that have not yet upgraded are already agreeing dates with suppliers on when they will be able to make the switch. By improving telephone technology, the requirement for GPs to offer both face-to-face and telephone/online consultations will be met.

Dr. Doyle continued:

“Every GP practice is upgrading their telephone systems to make it easier for patients to contact their practice, and patients can use the NHS app to order further prescriptions and view test results without having to contact their GP.

“We know there is still a lot of work to do to make it easier for patients to access GP services, so building on the successes so far of the plan to restore access to primary care, we are continuing to develop pharmacy services and give patients more choice in how they use them. access to care.”
