Authorities announced Wednesday that electricity rates will be reduced for some industrial companies in the Northern Emirates as part of a series of projects aimed at boosting growth.

Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) has announced new pricing tiers and a revised incentive structure that will reduce electricity rates for businesses that meet a certain consumption cap.

For those who consume more than 10,000 megawatt hours per month, the new tariffs start at 32 fils per kilowatt hour and could go as low as 26 fils per kilowatt hour, according to a report published by state news agency Wam.

The new system also provides for additional incentives, including:

  • Flexible fees for installation services
  • Exemption from insurance fees
  • No additional fees for using the meter

In addition to industrial companies, the new pricing structure will also apply to the technology sector, which will include disaster recovery data centers (DRDs). These hubs provide critical backup facilities that can be used to rebuild and restore technology infrastructure when an organization’s main data center goes down.

The initiative was launched on Wednesday on the sidelines of the third session of the “Make in the Emirates” forum.

The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology is working with its partners to increase incentives and opportunities for enterprises in the industrial sector, said the authority’s undersecretary, Omar Al Suwaidi.

“The new reduced tariff for industrial energy consumption is in line with the ‘Make in the Emirates’ initiative, which aims to increase the industrial sector’s contribution to gross domestic product,” Al Suwaidi said.

Engineer Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Etihad Water and Electricity, said the launch of this initiative reinforces the utility’s commitment to shaping a future where the energy sector drives industrial development.
