Google has unveiled Android 15 with major updates, but you’ll have to wait until it’s available on your device

Google has officially unveiled Android 15, introducing a number of new features and improvements. The first beta was released on April 11, 2024, followed by Android 15 Beta 2 on May 15 and Beta 2.1 on May 20. These releases follow the timeline set by Google during the initial rollout of Developer Preview 1. But the big question remains: when will your phone get Android 15?

As usual, Google Pixel devices will be the first to receive the Android 15 beta. The Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel 8, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet series are currently compatible with the latest beta. Several other manufacturers have also joined the beta program, including HONOR Magic 6 Pro and Magic V2, Vivo X100 and IQOO 12 – in selected regions such as India, Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand, Nothing Phone 2a and Phone 2, OnePlus 12 and OnePlus Open and Camon 30 Pro 5G. It is worth noting that brands like ASUS, Samsung, and Sony are yet to announce their Android 15 beta plans.

As for the rest of the OEMs, users can still run Android 15 using 64-bit system images using the Android emulator in Android Studio. This allows them to discover new features and simulate different screen sizes and device characteristics.

When it comes to the release of the final version, Google usually introduces the final version with the launch of the new Pixel series. This year, the Pixel 9 will likely debut in the fall, and after this launch, we can expect the final rollout of Android 15. Google has also indicated that the final release will happen after July, after ensuring the stability of the platform.

New Android 15 updates and features

Google has introduced Android 15, the latest operating system update that brings significant improvements for both users and developers.

For developers, Android 15 includes a new privacy sandbox that enhances user privacy by limiting data access and tracking. There are also camera extensions that provide tools for precise control of camera hardware, enabling better integration and performance. There’s also a new performance optimization platform that enables more effective thermal, CPU and GPU management for better overall device performance.

On the user side, Android 15 introduces several noteworthy features. Users can now archive rarely used apps directly from Settings, freeing up space without losing data. Accessibility improvements have also been made, including improved support for braille displays in Android TalkBack, making the operating system more integrated.

In terms of security improvements, Android 15 comes with an OS-level API that enables end-to-end encryption of contact keys, ensuring better data protection. Additionally, apps fit across the entire screen by default thanks to the edge-to-edge apps feature. Health Connect is getting an update with new data types, and partial screen sharing allows users to record specific app windows instead of the entire screen, giving more control over the content they share.
