Nominations for industry advisory committees to advise the Office of Insurance

Join industry experts in shaping insurance regulations: apply for the appointment of an advisory committee to the Insurance Office

The Government today (31 May) announced appointments to two industry advisory committees (IACs) to advise the Insurance Authority (IA) on industry-related issues.

Both IACs focus on long-term business and general business respectively. The Secretary of Finance reappointed or appointed 11 non-official members of each IAC for a two-year term from June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2026.

A spokesman for the Financial Services and Treasury Bureau said: “Members of the two IACs are experienced practitioners in the insurance industry and related sectors such as actuarial, fintech, banking, law and academia. Their diverse expertise will help the IA in promoting the stable development of the insurance industry and the protection of policyholders.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the four outgoing members for their support and contributions to IAC during their tenure.”

MAKs are statutory committees established under the Insurance Ordinance (Cap. 41) (the Ordinance) of 1 June 2016. The Ordinance provides that, in addition to the chairman, the CEO and no more than two other executive directors of the IA, the members of the IAC should include eight to 12 other people with knowledge or experience in the insurance industry, conducting regulated business and consumer affairs. They are appointed by the Financial Secretary after consultation with the IA.
