JCTU wants to reform the regulations governing the public sector | RJR News

by Halshane Burke

President of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) St. Patrice Ennis has renewed his call for reform of the rules governing the public sector.

Ennis says the regulations are outdated and need modernization.

It also calls for changes in the way government officials are treated when they are found to have violated the rules.

“We don’t like Art. 32 of the Public Service Regulation, which can prohibit and punish without due process. We think this is something that has long since lost its usefulness and we should move to something that is more reflective of the times,” he said.

Ennis also wants to pass the Occupational Health and Safety Act, which has been in limbo for a long time.

“This has been a declining problem for 20 years, but it is something that affects us deeply. And this is deeply…something that the private sector and those in other areas are taking cues from. So it would be good if we took some action with some alacrity.” where it is considered a quick transition.”

Mr. Ennis was speaking at the 105th annual general meeting of the Jamaica Civil Service Association on Thursday.
