Welsh professor presents India’s national circular economy

Wales’ Chief Science Officer presented India’s national circular economy.

Prof. Jas Pal Badyal FRS met this week with India’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Prof. Ajay K Sood FRS, another step forward in the continuation of the Year of Wales in India.

The aim was to discuss the advanced circular economy in Wales, as well as the health technology and agricultural technology sectors.

Prof. Sood, who provides key advice to the Government of India on scientific issues, both domestic and international, had a significant dialogue with Professor Badyal.

This meeting is part of a larger series of events taking place in multiple Indian cities such as New Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.

Prof. program Badyala focuses on showcasing the potential of strong partnerships as well as investment opportunities in Wales’ leading technology and science companies.

Prof. Badyal said: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to showcase the best applications of Welsh technology and innovation at a global level in fast-growing, high GDP economies, and the conversation with Prof. Soodem provided him with a unique opportunity to do this with someone with significant leadership and standing on the international stage.

“As Wales India Year has already proven to be a success in building strategic relationships between stakeholders in both countries, I hope that many mutual benefits will arise from the mutual work and unique qualities that our countries represent, and will also lead to further opening of doors to investment and cooperation.

“We discussed, among other things, the world-class circular economy sectors in Wales and where we could benefit from each other in the future.

“Environmental protection is one of the most important challenges facing humanity today.

“We will now monitor some topics of mutual interest ahead of our next meeting later this year.”

After the meeting, Professor Sood noted: “I am very pleased that today’s exchange with Professor Badyal will further deepen the engagement between India and Wales on issues of mutual scientific interest.

“There is great potential to expand our cooperation in areas ranging from green and renewable energy, biodiversity, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, semiconductors, digital transformation to skills development.

“I applaud Wales’ efforts towards a circular economy model – we have so much in common to increase our exchanges on this issue.

“I welcome the opportunity to join our forces to develop innovative solutions through joint R&D and investment to address a variety of common and global challenges.”
