Microsoft is close to an agreement to withdraw its complaint regarding violations of antitrust law in the EU – Voice of Nigeria

On Saturday, Politico reported that Microsoft is close to finalizing a multimillion-dollar deal with an Amazon-backed lobby to withdraw an antitrust complaint filed with the European Commission.

The deal, pending approval by members of Europe’s Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers (CISPE) organization, would result in providers withdrawing their request for an investigation into Microsoft’s cloud licensing agreements, according to industry officials familiar with the proposal.

The pact could include a multi-million-dollar payment to an industry association and separate payments to individual companies. CISPE, which owns Amazon and 26 small EU cloud providers, filed its complaint in late 2022, maintaining that Microsoft’s new contract terms imposed on October 1 are harmful to Europe’s cloud computing ecosystem.

As part of the settlement, CISPE and its members will also agree not to file legal complaints against Microsoft in any country in the world, according to the report.
