OEEC 2024 to emphasize the importance of working harmoniously

The global energy system is changing, but not fast enough. Although a huge amount of renewable energy is already coming onto the grid and the alternative fuel industry is growing, we cannot yet fully escape the warm embrace of gas heating and fossil fuel cars.

To more quickly reach the point where we can fully rely on clean electrons and molecules, the offshore energy sector and all of its moving parts must work not just side by side or with each other – but in harmony.

All we can do is accelerate progress, and this can only be achieved by planning and building clean energy infrastructure faster and more effectively, decarbonizing the hydrocarbon sector, and continually innovating to bring the most effective solutions to market and open new frontiers.

All this must be done in harmony with nature and with particular attention to biodiversity when building and operating new infrastructure. Moreover, all this needs to be done at a global level.

Reducing global warming is not an impossible task in the hands of a select few countries – it is a fully achievable, shared goal of all governments around the world.

Over the last few editions of the Marine Energy Exhibition and Conference (OEEC), we have seen the marine energy industry, the public and private sectors, environmental organizations and other stakeholders come together each year to plan the next steps and overcome barriers in energy transformation.

Collaboration between the various offshore energy industries and stakeholders is now stronger than ever before, with everyone aligned around one goal. Despite this, there is a noticeable need for greater synchronization of all these different parts working on our energy future.

That’s why we decided to focus OEEC 2024 on one main theme: Harmony.

Harmony between marine energy divisions

The marine energy sector comes in many forms, from offshore wind, marine energy (including wave, tidal and floating solar), hydrogen to fossil fuels (oil, gas and LNG), and is supported by large industries such as such as the maritime ecological sector (ships powered by ecological and alternative fuels).

We believe that a harmonious sector, including all industries and their supporting industries, and harmony in the energy mix are the key to achieving net zero.

OEEC 2024 will reflect this harmony by providing a space for the entire industry to discuss the latest pressing issues at the Offshore Energy Conference, with dedicated conference sessions on offshore wind, hydrogen and topics relevant to the entire offshore energy sector.

We will once again create the Innovators’ Dock on the exhibition floor, and the entire exhibition will bring together many marine energy and related industries.

In harmony with the surroundings

Even the cleanest energy sources come with conservation concerns, especially as infrastructure such as offshore wind energy grows larger by the day. With climate change at the heart of all the sector’s efforts, decarbonizing oil and gas assets is also high on the list.

The OEEC 2024 conference program will once again provide space for discussion on how we can achieve massive renewable energy targets and absorb existing fossil fuel capacity, while controlling our approach to nature and biodiversity.

On the OEEC floor, the industry will have the opportunity to see and learn first-hand about environmentally friendly solutions from various areas of the sector.

Harmony at the international level

All this requires an international approach to create the most breakthrough innovations, set the best standards to enable further development and enable the whole world to benefit from what the marine energy sector is about, with the support of policymakers and environmental organizations to work on.

One area where the OEEC is emphasizing the international aspect is floating wind energy – a technology that is not planned to be installed in Dutch North Sea waters, but which brings together a large group of industries within the offshore energy sector, including the Dutch supplier of network companies that are working to bring floating wind energy to industry maturity.

In this year’s edition, OEEC will continue to emphasize internationalization and innovation, which we consider crucial to achieving global goals.

“This year’s Harmonia theme covers a number of aspects, including environmental protection, cooperation with stakeholders, technological integration, security and international cooperation,” said Jaap Prost, conference program manager at Navingo.

“Achieving harmony in these areas is crucial for the successful and sustainable innovative development of marine renewable energy resources.”

OEEC 2024 will take place on November 26-27 in Amsterdam and early registration is now available.
