China shows the world’s largest solar power plant, which can supply electricity to all of Luxembourg : Tech : Tech Times

Would you believe that there is a solar power plant in China that can supply electricity to the entire country? It is the largest in the world so far.

As for its size, imagine it has the same area as New York City. Currently located in the Xinjiang desert region, the 5 GW complex covers 200,000 acres and is connected to China’s power grid.

China has officially unveiled the world’s largest solar farm to date. It is so large that it can cover two specific countries from two different continents.

According to The Independent, this solar power plant is capable of supplying electricity to a small country such as Luxembourg or Papua Guinea.

With its 2023 vision to increase its capacity by more than 50%, China already sees itself as a leader in solar energy deployment.

Currently, the new solar farm surpasses the previous solar projects Ningxia Teneggeli and Golmud Wutumeiren. Surprisingly, these two locations are also in China.

As many countries begin to embrace solar energy, China is constantly striving to achieve a “remarkable” feat in renewable energy.

According to a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), China’s new renewable capacity accounts for about 60%. The country hopes to have it operational by 2028.

“China’s role is crucial in achieving the global goal of tripling renewable energy, as the country is expected to install more than half of the new capacity required globally by 2030. By the end of the forecast period, almost half of China’s electricity generation will come from renewable sources. energy sources,” the report adds.

Meanwhile, major player Longi Green Energy Technology detailed in its analysis that solar panels in Chinese households will be enough to provide electricity for the entire country and Southeast Asia.

The only thing that worries experts is the production of solar panels in China. They believe that such a large number could result in trade tensions due to overcapacity.

What about the United States when it comes to the renewable energy transition?

In early May, Tech Times reported that the United States was struggling to keep pace with the rollout of renewable energy sources. Despite progress, there appears to be a sharp decline in the use of fossil fuel power plants.

Coming back to Chinese solar panel technology, the Biden administration has imposed some changes when it comes to import tariffs. The administration indicated that it would be doubled from 25% to 50%.

The overturning of this decision resulted in a sharp increase in the number of Chinese panels in the US market. This would mean that the Biden administration hopes to see a surge in demand for domestic solar panel suppliers in the country.
