Maruti Suzuki will invest Rs 450 crore in renewable energy initiative

Maruti Suzuki India on Wednesday said it will invest Rs 450 crore over three years to launch solar and biogas-linked renewable energy projects.

In FY24, the company invested Rs 120.8 crore in the vertical business.

The statement said that the company will increase this investment by approximately four times to Rs 450 crore spread over three years from FY25.

“As we expand our production capacity from approximately 2 million to 4 million by 2030-31, we are also accelerating efforts to increase the share of sustainable and renewable energy sources across our operations,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki . .

He added that just as the company uses a lot of technology in its products, it would also focus on a lot of renewable energy sources to make its operations greener.

The company said it had launched a pilot biogas plant at its Manesar plant in FY25, tapping the untapped potential of internal food waste. The installation is designed to produce 0.2 tons of biogas per day. The expected production in FY25 will be around 1 lakh standard cubic meters of biogas.

It will offset approximately 190 tons of CO2 per year.

The company also expanded its solar capacity to 43.2 MW in FY24. It said it was on track to add 15 MW of solar capacity to its Manesar plant and 20 MW to its upcoming Kharkhoda plant in the next two years.

This will take the total solar capacity to 78.2 MW by FY26.
