Samsung is working on a double-tap feature to check the time on Galaxy devices

Technology is constantly evolving, and smartphone manufacturers need to constantly innovate to capture consumers’ attention and make their lives easier. As such, it looks like Samsung is working on a new feature that will allow Galaxy phone users to check the time with a simple double-tap on the back of the device.

As Samsung whistleblower Tarun Vats recently discovered, the company is working on updating the RegiStar module in the Good Lock app. This app allows users to customize various aspects of the phone’s interface. The update will introduce a feature called “Check the time with a back tap.”
The RegiStar module, which is part of the Good Lock app, already allows users to assign functions to the double-tap gesture on the back of the phone. Currently, it can be used for purposes such as taking screenshots. This new feature will expand its capabilities by allowing users to check the time without unlocking the phone or turning on the screen. The idea behind this is to improve accessibility and convenience, which will be especially useful in situations where seeing the screen may be difficult, such as in bright sunlight or when the phone is in a pocket or bag. While the double-tap feature is currently enabled for other features on some Galaxy devices, the new time checker feature will be unique in that it will work even when the screen is off. This is a big step forward in terms of usability and accessibility.
According to the team working on the feature, it will be available initially on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6, while other Galaxy devices will gain access to it later with the One UI 7 update. However, it looks like tablets will not be included in this rollout.

The ‘Check the time with Back Tap’ feature is still in development, but is expected to be a welcome addition for many Galaxy phone users. It’s a small change, but it can make a significant difference to everyday convenience.
