Oil sector cybersecurity essential to protect economy, says Kuwait – ARAB TIMES – KUWAIT NEWS

KUwait, June 6: Recognizing the potential detrimental impact on the global economy, Kuwait’s Ministry of Petroleum on Wednesday confirmed that cybersecurity plays a strategic role in protecting oil, assets and other sensitive information at the ministry. The remarks of the head of the PR and media department at the Ministry of Petroleum, Sheikh Tamadhur Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, came during a seminar organized by the Ministry and attended by Colonel Abdulrahman Al-Shatti from the Cybersecurity Directorate at the Ministry of Defense.

With increasing dependence on technology in the oil sector, cybersecurity has become a necessity to protect operations, highlighting the need for advanced technology, strategic security integration and periodic training programs, Sheikha Tamadhur said. She added that Kuwait’s cybersecurity development reflects an important aspect of the country’s strategy to address challenges in this space and protect infrastructure, calling on other government bodies to follow suit.

For his part, Al-Shatti gave a visual presentation highlighting cybersecurity in all its forms, the different impacts at the civilian and military levels, and shared knowledge on cyber threat assessment and management. Moreover, threats in cyberspace exist at the individual, institutional and governmental levels, highlighting that these cyber threats can take the form of espionage, piracy and recruitment for organized terrorist groups and their activities (KUNA)
