Aggrieved PEC ANC members are drawing a line in the sand

ANC Limpopo provincial executive committee (PEC) members illegally removed from the SA Electoral Commission (IEC) list during data collection are threatening problems if the error is not corrected within two days.

Angry MPs are among those expected to be on the list to go to the Limpopo provincial legislature this week for the seventh administration in Lebowakgomo.

They have given the Limpopo ANC until today to update them on the progress of their situation.

Urgent resolution

They expected PEC Limpopo to speak to ANC national leaders at Luthuli House to expedite resolution of the matter before tomorrow.

“We are PEC ANC Limpopo members who were illegally removed from the list of comrades going to Parliament during data collection for the IEC.

“National Executive Committee (NEC) officials promised to engage us, but despite this promise, nothing happened,” members said on the eve of the inauguration.

Citizen took note of the letter addressed to Limpopo ANC officials, provincial chairperson Stan Mathabatha and provincial secretary Reuben Madadzhe.

Those affected are Reggie Molokomme, Danny Ndlovu, Frans Mokwele, Rosemary Molepo and Jeremiah Ngobeni.

“As affected comrades, we have always exercised high moral discipline during the campaign as we believe that the ANC will abide by its decision and implement it accordingly. We cannot rely on anything other than the wisdom of our ANC leadership,” the letter reads in part.

“In a few days, some ANC members will be sworn in as members of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature, including those who were wrongly captured by the IEC but were not endorsed by the NEC.

“We therefore urgently request an update on progress since then. We will be grateful if updated information on this matter is received before the illegal members take the oath,” the letter reads.

Yesterday, PEC Limpopo ANC spokesman Jimmy Machaka said the ANC was aware of the issue.

“ANC Limpopo has noted the call from concerned PEC members,” he said.

“Further action will be taken with ANC national officials to monitor progress. The provincial government acknowledges that PEC members are at a disadvantage and that this situation needs to be remedied.

“We are in talks with NEC and the results will be communicated to interested parties.”
