Elon Musk threatens to ban Apple devices due to the premiere of artificial intelligence

Apple recently announced Apple Intelligence and revealed its intentions to integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into iOS devices. Musk seems dissatisfied.

Apple is one of the leaders left in the backseat of the AI revolution. Even though the company was a leader in virtual assistants with Siri offering advanced interactions, the rise of generational artificial intelligence quickly turned things around. To pick up the slack, the tech giant launched its own Apple Intelligence technology, which brings multiple AI features across devices.

Apple Intelligence is in its initial launch phase and is only offered for a limited set of devices powered by M-series chips. This includes iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and any Mac device with an M-series chip. AI Tools Offered help with writing, image editing, and organizational tasks. Apple says these features are just a preview of what’s to come.

Elon Musk, CEO of X, xAI and SpaceX, disagrees with Apple’s moves in artificial intelligence. While Musk didn’t speak in detail about Apple Intelligence, he did express open dissatisfaction with Apple’s integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, calling it an overreach. Apple is considering adding ChatGPT assistance to Siri after receiving user consent to share their ChatGPT query or task.

WWDC 2024 also revealed a number of major improvements, the most significant of which were the operating systems for all ranges of devices featuring M-series chips. Apple announced the launch of iOS 18, iPad OS 18, macOS Sequoia, WatchOS 11, VisionOS 2 and TVOS 18. This literally sums up every device platform that Apple supports.

According to Elon Musk’s tweet, he appears to be distrustful of the privacy measures that will apply to users. In a series of posts on X, Musk wrote: “If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, Apple devices will be banned from my companies. This is an unacceptable security breach.” He added that anyone who enters his company’s premises will be asked to store their Apple devices in a Faraday cage, which disrupts wireless network interactions. To prevent this threat from turning into a harsh reality, Musk asked that OpenAI integration be limited to a dedicated application, not the operating system.
