Under this initiative, Belgian citizens will have the opportunity to activate the application as part of their eID, communicate with government solutions, as well as securely and efficiently store all types of official documents issued by the government. This functionality has been developed with the intention of gradually improving it so that in the future, customers and private individuals will be able to store their ID cards, driving licenses and other certificates.

Additionally, the process of moving to a mobile device to access and store sensitive data typically poses security challenges due to the complex threading model and the overall significant increase in attack vendors. Taking into account the high value of digital assets stored in the wallet and the amount of material damage that may result from each type of vulnerability, a product was introduced to the market with a high level of protection against a multitude of attacks.

Cryptomathic’s Mobile App Security Core (MASC) solution will also be used by Federal Public Service Policy and Support (BOSA) to ensure high levels of application security, protection and privacy. MASC was developed as an anti-tamper software development kit (SDK) consisting of several layers of components to secure a mobile application. This also includes secure communication through device pairing.

According to the official press release, the new digital wallet has been made available for Belgian citizens to download to their smartphones in all major app stores.
