Pacific Green expands team in China to support global deployment of energy storage systems

Pacific Green has been operating in China since 2017, but only this year has its team in Shanghai grown to over 50 people, providing clients with a range of clean energy expertise across engineering, quality control, sustainability, procurement and finance.

The Shanghai-based team plays a key role in maintaining Pacific Green’s access to leading energy storage technologies available on the global market, enabling the company to work with major manufacturers to develop systems that meet the specific operational needs of its projects in the UK, Australia, Italy and Poland.

The strength of this local support network also provides Pacific Green with an exceptional level of supply chain oversight, ensuring the highest possible standards of safety and quality control and the timely delivery of project-critical equipment.

Over the next 9 months, the company plans to hire a further 20 new employees in China as it builds an ‘Engineering and Procurement Center of Excellence’, which will become its global procurement and logistics hub – adding significant project finance and development expertise within the existing Office in London and Melbourne.

“We have always approached our supply chain partnerships individually to ensure timely access to high-quality products tailored to our needs,” said Christo Hammes, chief operating officer of Pacific Green. “As more battery storage markets open up around the world, it is clear that the faster we grow our operations in Shanghai, the faster we will be able to expand our global project portfolio. But it’s not just about access to equipment. We cannot ignore the key role China is currently playing as a technology leader in battery energy storage, with an enviable commitment to research and development and an unrivaled pace of innovation. Being also in China, we can plan for tomorrow’s technology today. Pacific Green has a long history of working closely with China’s leading clean technology and battery manufacturers, helping us deliver projects that make a tangible difference in major global markets. By investing in Shanghai as our Center of Excellence in Engineering and Procurement, we intend to attract the best people to our team and continue to support the global collaboration necessary for the success of the energy transition.”
