Committed to developing renewable energy initiatives to meet growing demands: Minister Pralhad Joshi

NEW DELHI: The government is committed to expanding renewable energy initiatives to meet the country’s growing energy demand and environmental goals, Pralhad Joshi, Union minister for new and renewable energy and consumer affairs, food and public distribution, said on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media after taking over the leadership, Joshi emphasized the key importance of the renewable energy sector in ensuring India’s energy security and highlighted the huge growth potential in this field.

He stated: “Our belief is to achieve self-sufficiency in fuel and energy by 2047.”

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are committed to ensuring food security for the people of India. Reforms will be undertaken to strengthen natural agriculture,” Joshi said.

Outgoing Union Ministers of concerned ministries Piyush Goyal and Shripad Naik, who were present on the occasion, handed over the charge to Joshi.

Pralhad Joshi represents the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency in north Karnataka.

Earlier, Shripad Yesso Naik also took charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

India is starting the path to meeting at least half of its energy needs through renewable energy by 2030, and by then the country will have attracted over $500 billion in clean energy investments.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the five-pronged goal for India and its commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2070 at the United Nations ‘COP26’ session.
