Google is rolling out Pixel with AI on more devices in June, DisplayPort support, and more

Google is introducing a new feature in June 2024 that will enrich Pixel phones, watches and tablets with new capabilities. These updates include more AI-powered devices, useful features for displaying content on TVs, more payment options on the watch, and more.

Gemini Nano, Google’s powerful AI model, is now available as a developer option on the Pixel 8 and even on Pixel 8a. This allows developers and users who are experienced enough to tinker with these settings to explore the potential of AI tasks on the device. Google also provided a link with instructions on how to enable developer options for those who need a refresher.

Pixel phone users can also expect improvements to the Recorder app, which now provides more detailed summaries Pixel 8Pixel 8 Pro i Pixel 8a. These summaries allow you to identify speakers in conversations, making it easier to follow interviews or lectures. Transcripts can also be exported to text files or Google Docs.

Entertainment options expand with the arrival of Pixel 8a, Pixel 8AND Pixel 8 Pro can now display content on larger screens via USB-C. USB-C display output support has long been a highly requested feature by Pixel users, so it’s great to see it finally becoming a reality.

A handy update to Find My Device lets you locate your phone even when it’s turned off or has a low battery, while still prioritizing user privacy. The Pixel camera has also received a nice upgrade with an automatic feature that identifies the best moment in HDR+ photos, keeping faces sharp and smiling. More noteworthy, however, is the new Pixel camera feature that allows users to manually select the camera lens when taking photos.

Reverse phone number lookups are now also possible directly from the call log, making it easy to find more information about those mystery numbers. Additionally, Google Wallet is expanding to India, offering a safe place for boarding passes, loyalty cards and other data.

Pixel watches have car accident detection, PayPal support, and Smart Home control

Pixel Watch 2 introduces Car Crash Detection, a new safety feature designed to detect serious accidents and automatically dial emergency services if needed. The fall detection feature has also been improved to better detect falls from bicycles. The Google Home app on Pixel Watch has been improved to provide faster access to smart home devices. Favorites can be accessed with a swipe, and changes can be made directly from the watch face. The app itself offers more options for controlling smart home devices.

The Pixel tablet gets richer doorbell notifications and a new Google Home Favorites widget

Finally, Pixel tablet users will receive richer doorbell notifications when docked, including a visitor snapshot and the ability to communicate via two-way conversation or quick replies. Additionally, the new Google Home Favorites widget provides faster access to compatible smart home devices on phone and tablet home screens.

The rollout of the new features begins today and will continue over the next several weeks, gradually improving the user experience across Google’s Pixel ecosystem.
