Reminders in iOS 18 can now reside within the Calendar app, combining two key productivity tools

Apple’s Calendar and Reminders apps have long been core pillars of Apple’s productivity offerings on iPhone, Mac and more. In iOS 18, Apple improves these tools by integrating them – optionally – into a single interface.

Now you can view and manage all your reminders right next to your calendar events in the iOS 18 Calendar app.

Calendar reminders give you a more complete picture of your day

Have you ever looked at the Calendar app and realized that because it didn’t have to-do items, it wasn’t giving you the best overview of your day? I’ve had this feeling on many occasions, which is why I’ve always appreciated apps like Fantastical that allowed the integration of these two productivity tools.

Now in iOS 18, Apple’s Calendar app can provide the same comprehensive integration of to-dos and events.

The Reminders app still exists as a separate app for iOS 18, so showing reminders in Calendar is completely optional, but if you want to combine the two tools, here’s how it works.

Reminders that have a due date will appear on that date in Calendar. This applies to both all-day events and those that have a specific time assigned.

As you’d expect, reminders with specific dates will appear in Calendar and sorted accordingly next to events. So if you have a reminder scheduled for 6:00 p.m., it will appear just below the event scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

You can check and uncheck reminders right in the Calendar interface, and the little circles also serve as a helpful way to distinguish reminders from events.

Apple specializes in integrating its various products through hardware, software, and services to provide a better ecosystem experience. We started to play around with integrating app features, such as Apple News articles appearing in the Weather app.

Reminders and Calendar seem like a natural fit for the next phase of app integration, and I’m excited to see what other types of movements might emerge in the future.
