Police say Lehigh County man allegedly used tracking devices to stalk former co-worker (UPDATE)

Editor’s note: This post has been updated to include additional allegations and details provided by police against the accused.

An Upper Macungie man is accused of stalking a Delaware County woman he once worked with, and police say there may be additional victims in the case.

Matthew Kwatyra, 30, of 4500 Woodbrush Way, is charged with misdemeanor stalking and harassment based on preliminary charges filed Friday. Court records show that later that day, investigators filed another misdemeanor, multiple-count stalking charge.

Kwatyra was arrested Thursday during a traffic stop with the assistance of East Lansdowne police in Delaware County. Court records do not indicate that a public defender has been appointed to represent Kwatyra yet.

On Thursday evening, Darby Borough County Police received a report from a 33-year-old victim that Kwatyra, a former colleague at a luxury car dealership, was being stalked. The victim told police that Kwatyra had contacted her through text messages, emails and phone calls after he fired her from her job at a Delaware County dealership in November, court records show.

The victim reported Kwatyra on Thursday, then showed up at her home unannounced and received an Apple AirTag notification that Kwatyra was trying to share her location, court records show.

“Please remain vigilant if you do not have tracking devices, travel, or other bags or other items with you,” Darby Police Chief Joseph Gabe Jr. wrote on the department’s Facebook page. “These devices provide instant location that is visible to the person(s) who placed them. These types of trackers, if they are of a certain brand, will notify you on your cell phone of the device your phone wants to transmit your location to. Please be aware of these tracking devices and remain vigilant!”

The victim later called police headquarters shortly before 7 p.m. Friday to report that Kwatyra had allegedly tried to call her from the Delaware County Jail. Police said call logs obtained by jail investigators confirm the victim’s account.

Court records show Kwatrya was arraigned Friday before District Judge Steven Sandone, who set bail at $10,000. However, the bail was revoked by the judge when Kwatyra allegedly violated his bail conditions by contacting the victim in jail. Darby police subsequently filed additional charges against Kwatyra.

Kwatyra is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Georgia L. Stone on the latest charges. He is being held in the Delaware County Jail.

Investigators believe there may be additional stalking victims in this case. The case is under investigation by Darby Borough Police. Anyone with information is asked to contact Darby Police Detective Anthony Salvatore at 610-586-1100.
