macOS Sequoia beta launches with iPhone mirroring, improved Safari browser, and gaming updates

Apple today released macOS Sequoia Beta, an upcoming version of its desktop operating system with new features designed to increase productivity and leverage cutting-edge intelligence capabilities. One of the most important new features is iPhone Mirroring, which gives users full control of their iPhone directly from their Mac. This feature is an essential part of Apple’s Continuity suite, ensuring seamless interaction between macOS and iOS devices.

Safari is receiving significant updates, including a new Highlights feature that helps users easily find information while browsing. Apple also announced the new Passwords app, making it easier to access and organize your passwords and credentials in one convenient place.

Mac gaming is gaining even more popularity with the addition of popular titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Frostpunk 2. These games, enhanced with Apple’s MetalFX Upscaling technology, deliver better performance and graphics on Mac devices.

Another major addition is Apple Intelligence, which integrates generative AI models and personal context across macOS, iOS and iPadOS, offering a new layer of intelligent functionality that Apple says respects user privacy. This system is optimized for Mac computers with M-series chips and uses a neural engine to maximize performance.

Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering at Apple, highlighted the synergy of the power of Apple silicon and the user-friendliness of macOS, saying: “With macOS Sequoia, we elevate the Mac experience by integrating advanced productivity tools and intelligent features that transform everyday tasks.”

macOS Sequoia highlights include:

  • iPhone mirroring: Use iPhone apps and features directly on your Mac with the ability to interact using your Mac’s keyboard, trackpad or mouse.
  • Enhanced Safari: Easily discover web content with Highlights and enjoy a distraction-free reading experience with improved Reader mode.
  • Advanced Games: Enjoy new and upcoming games with enhanced graphics and personalized audio settings for an immersive gaming experience.
  • Window Stacking: Quickly organize open applications on your desktop with new window stacking and stacking features.
