A 10 GW wind farm in Egypt is nearing construction

Infinity Power, Africa’s largest renewable energy developer, Hassan Allam Utilities, a development and investment platform focused on sustainable infrastructure, and Masdar, a leading renewable energy company in the United Arab Emirates, have signed a land access agreement with the Government of Egypt for their onshore farm wind farm with a capacity of 10 GW. This project, considered one of the largest in the world, is worth more than $10 billion.

The agreement gives the consortium access to 3,025 km² of land in West Suhag, enabling them to conduct the necessary land use studies. These studies include resource measurement campaigns, geotechnical and topographic surveys, and environmental assessments designed to ensure minimal environmental impact.

This research represents a significant step forward in the development of the project. The findings will be crucial for the transition to the construction phase. Once construction begins, the wind farm will deliver significant benefits to local communities, including job creation, community support initiatives and environmental protection measures.

This groundbreaking wind project is expected to produce 47,790 GWh of clean energy annually, reducing Egypt’s carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 9 percent by displacing 23.8 million tons of CO2 each year. Additionally, the wind farm will help meet Egypt’s goal of sourcing 42 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030, saving the country an estimated $5 billion annually in natural gas costs.

The signing of the agreement was attended by the Prime Minister of Egypt, HE Moustafa Madbouly and HE Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt. The signatories were Mohamed Ismail Mansour, CEO of Infinity Power, Karim Hefzy, Chief Operating Officer at Hassan Allam Utilities, and Dr. Mohamed Asaad Taher, Senior Business Development and Investment Manager at Masdar.

Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi said: “Masdar, its joint venture Infinity Power and our partner Hassan Allam Utilities are supporting Egypt in achieving its ambitious renewable energy goals. This groundbreaking project will push the boundaries of innovation and scale, helping to unlock Africa’s clean energy potential and accelerate the energy transition.”

Amr Allam, co-CEO of Hassan Allam Holding, commented: “The signing of the land access agreement for the 10 GW wind farm project is a key moment. This initiative underscores our commitment to clean energy and environmental responsibility, and we are proud to be part of this transformative project that will have a positive impact on Egypt’s energy landscape.”

Mohamed Ismail Mansour, CEO of Infinity Power, added: “We are excited to continue the development of our 10 GW wind farm in Egypt. This project will create jobs, invest in local communities and provide a significant energy boost, reducing emissions and boosting the energy industry across the country.

Nayer Fouad, CEO of Infinity Power, concluded: “This ambitious project will be one of the largest wind farms in the world. This highlights Infinity Power’s ability to deliver large-scale renewable projects and shows that bold targets can drive countries to embrace renewable energy and transform their energy mix.”
